Assessments
Assessments and evaluations play an important role in the work we do. Our initiatives are steeped in evidence and research-based best practices that promote and foster student success, development and engagement.
College Student Inventory
The CSI is intended to be completed upon acceptance into VCU. All new, first-year students should take a few moments to tell us more about yourself so that your academic advisor can help you create your personalized success plan. VCU will share preliminary results from this survey during your new student orientation session to help you prepare for a successful foundation as you embark on your journey as a first-year college student.

Mid-Year Student Assessment
The MYSA is intended to be completed at the mid-point of students’ first-year at VCU. VCU uses the MYSA to determine the effectiveness of current student success interventions in order to meet students’ needs throughout their time at VCU.

Second-Year Student Assessment
The SYSA is intended to be completed in the second year of college. Based on students’ self-reported responses to items on the SYSA, this instrument assesses students’ motivational patterns, coping skills, specific needs and interests, and satisfaction with their educational experience at your institution. VCU will utilize assessment results to facilitate more timely and precise responses to needs and expectations of the individual student, as well as specific cohorts of students (Ruffalo Noel Levitz, 2017).
